Stay Safe Online this Christmas.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – probably not what you asked for for Christmas?
Normally we would be looking to add a little festive cheer this time of year. However, according to a recent Microsoft survey, 63% of holiday shopping will be done online!
Because of this and due to the christmas cheer here at Fourtify HQ we felt it worthwhile giving our readers a little reminder about staying safe online. Protecting your online accounts through the use of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is the quickest way to securely manage access to your accounts.
So here are some quick tips from us to add a little more protection over this festive period:
- Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Did you know that weak passwords are the entry point for most cyber-attacks and there are a whopping 579 password attacks every single second. Implementing MFA enables you to control access to your accounts with notifications via text, e-mail or phone call when an attempt is made to access your account. Multi-Factor Authentication blocks 99% of password attacks.
- Go Passwordless. Microsoft make it very easy to remove the password all together. This approach also saves you needing to remember and update your password on a regular basis.
- Strengthen your password. The longer your password is, the harder it is for hackers to crack it. The National Cyber Security Council suggest implementing ‘ThreeRandomWords’ as a simple yet effective approach to generating a longer more secure password for your accounts which should be easier for you to remember.
- If It’s too good to be true – don’t fall for it. Bad actors will be looking to exploit our concerns around availability, delivery and price this festive season. So if the ‘perfect’ present pops up with a ‘guaranteed delivery’ make sure you trust the site you are purchasing from before giving them your details.
Hopefully these few tips help you over the festive season! If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the team on hello@fourtify.co.uk
Have a great Christmas!
